Home > Statewide Water Analysis Network (SWAN)
The California Department of Water Resources (DWR) is organizing a statewide network of people to improve California’s analytical capabilities in support of water management decisions and investments. Improving these analytical capabilities will require significant participation by local, state and federal agencies, organizations and governments. DWR wants to collaborate with interested stakeholders to improve analytical tools and share data through a Statewide Water Analysis Network (SWAN) (.pdf, 34 kb).

Longer Term activities
To examine the utility of establishing SWAN, DWR is facilitating three pilot studies. These studies were suggested at a SWAN scoping workshop because they will help advance analytical capabilities for regional and statewide water management in California, and because they will need the participation of analysts from various local, State and federal agencies, academic and research institutions, consultants, and individuals to be successful.

Pilot Study 1 (.pdf, 19 kb) - Integrate data and information from California Urban Water Management Plans (UWMPs) regionally and for the California Water Plan.
      Study description (.pdf, 200 kb)
      January 24, 2007 - Meeting summary (.pdf, 17 kb)

Pilot Study 2 (.pdf, 21 kb) - Develop a shared schematic (diagram) and description of the physical features and connections that make up the regional and statewide water management systems in California.

Pilot Study 3 (.pdf, 13 kb)- Develop a shared conceptual basis and analytical approach to describe, estimate, and forecast water demands in California.
Context for Urban Water demand (.pdf, 562 kb)

Please sign up if you want to participate in one or more of these pilot studies.
