The California Water Plan Update 2013 aims to deepen and expand the relationships between State agencies and California Native American Tribes built during Update 2009, and thereby improve the overall quality and comprehensiveness of the plan. This includes establishing a Tribal Advisory Committee (Tribal AC).

In addition to joining the Tribal AC, tribal communities are encouraged to participate in regional and topic-based discussions, and attend public and tribal advisory committee meetings to stay informed.

The California Water Plan maintains a voluntary subscription listserve to distribute Water Plan news and meeting announcements to members and staff of California Native American Tribes, and to share information of possible interest from the Department of Water Resources and other agencies.
